A/N: This was done as a pot_exchange May Day present for emo_spicy and she gave me permission to cross-post it... yay!

Join the AA!

Tezuka gave a single glance at the ordinary-looking door and announced flatly, “I’m not going in there.”

“There was a ninety-five percent chance Tezuka would say that,” Inui observed a little sadly. “And thus endeth our brilliant plan…”

“Tezuka-buchou, you’re not afraid of going in there, are you?” Under normal circumstances, Momoshiro would never have dared to utter such a thing right in his captain’s face, but they were currently in the midst of a Fuji-invented game whose rules included “No laps can be ordered.”, and therefore he was taking as much advantage of it as possible.

Tezuka did not think it necessary to remind him that the rule did not last until the next day, which meant that Momo would be running many, many laps at the stroke of midnight.

“Mada mada dane,” Came the unsatisfying comment from the freshman pillar-to-be of Seigaku.

“Echizen.” There was the slightest hint of a threat in that word.

The capped boy merely tilted up his head and smirked full in his buchou’s face. “Mada mada dane, Tezuka-buchou.” He repeated.

Tezuka opened his mouth to give them all a strict dressing-down when he was suddenly interrupted by a silky voice that signaled his doom.

“Maa, Tezuka… are you going to back down now? Hadn’t we agreed that the winner would have to make a trip here?”

He silently cursed Fuji, and settled instead for glaring at the shorter boy. Fuji could have won, but he had lost on purpose. He made a mental note to make him run no less than a hundred laps when they got back, and replied, “Aa.”

Fuji’s smile broadened. “It’ll be good for you, Tezuka.”

With those ominous words, he took a deep breath, prayed that no one familiar would be inside to see his utter humiliation, and stepped into the doorway.

But not, of course, before he had cast a last threatening glare towards the tensai’s direction.

His luck ran out as soon as he stepped into the dimly lighted room. What on earth was the whole of Rikkaidai doing here, staring at him as if he were an alien who had just told them that he was coming to conquer the earth?

Kirihara broke the silence. “See, Seigaku’s buchou’s going as well! There’s nothing to worry about!”

Tezuka twitched. Being called that simply reminded him of how little control he had over his team, if today’s incident was anything to go by.

“Go on, Sanada,” Yukimura’s musical voice urged a certain vice-captain who was trying in vain to flee from this insanity.

Tezuka felt a sudden sense of deja-vu, and mourned the fact that people like Fuji and Yukimura had been born to the world.

Tezuka’s gut feelings never lied. Which was why he wasn’t all that surprised to find himself standing with Sanada in a sparsely furnished room, populated by a few miserable looking specimens of the human species.

A sudden voice jolted them back to reality. “Ah, we have a few new visitors today!” The gross cheerfulness in the voice made Tezuka cringe.

There were a few pathetic attempts at half-hearted applause across the room.

“Sort yourself out into pairs, please,” The big, burly man seemed to be the only one who was doing the talking.

They automatically sorted themselves out into twos, and Tezuka was inevitably paired up with Sanada.

“Now, start your session with your partner… talk as much as you want! Spill the beans, man!”

Tezuka looked at Sanada.

Sanada looked at Tezuka.

Tezuka looked at Sanada.

Sanada cleared his throat. “So… um… you’ve been to the AA before, haven’t you?”

Tezuka looked at him as if he was crazy. “…no.”

“Oh!” Sanada attempted to cover up his surprise, but failed miserably. “Then why are you here?”

Tezuka imagined himself throwing darts at a certain brown-haired boy as he gritted out, “Fuji.”

“Yukimura,” Sanada concurred. And they both bowed their heads to observe a minute of silence for all the victims of the duo.

One minute stretched into two, and three, then several…

“Talk, people! Share your life story! Compliment one another! This is anonymous, so you will not destroy your reputation!”

Tezuka winced. It wasn’t like he had any reputation left after being caught walking into this place - by the whole of Rikkaidai, no less.

The man came up to them. “Why aren’t you two talking? Come on, say something! Cap-guy, compliment him!” He jerked a thumb in Tezuka’s direction.

Sanada hesitated for a moment, before offering, “You’re good in tennis.”

“…aa. You too.”

“…”

The man smacked his forehead, and gave up on the two hopeless newbies. How were they ever going to get rehabilitated if they wouldn’t even talk?

As soon as the man had gone, Sanada commented, “He’s crazy.”

Tezuka let out a small snort of agreement.

Sanada looked at Tezuka contemplatively. “Although perhaps Fuji was right. You should go for regular AA meetings – you need it.”

Tezuka looked like he was about to throw a very, very hard object at Sanada’s head.

Epilogue

If anyone ever asked them how their relationship started in the first place, Sanada would start choking while Tezuka would immediately clam up - as was the current situation.

“Come on, tell!” Kirihara was practically bouncing with excitement.

“…”

They looked at each other and shook their heads in unison. There was no way in hell they would ever tell anyone that they had first met at an AA meeting.

Especially not when the AA stood for “Antisocials Anonoymous”.
